Posted on January 18, 2019March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

I am always on the lookout for new and interesting books for the kids and so I was delighted when HeyWow asked me to review one of their lovely personalised seek and find picture books. You upload a photo of your child and choose an adventure for them to star in – In the City […]

Murton Farm Nature Reserve

Posted on October 20, 2018March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

When you think of Murton Trust you’ll most probably think of the lovely farm and its animals, birds and children’s activities.  But you might not realise that it also has an extensive nature reserve that is free to explore.  We have visited the farm many times before but a few weeks ago we walked around the […]

Sandwick Bay Candles Subscription Box

Posted on September 29, 2018March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

Review: Sandwick Bay Candles Subscription Box Autumn is my favourite time of year: the landscape lit in shades of red and gold; beautiful crisp days; a season of scarves and knits, pumpkins and conkers, blankets and candles. Now that the days are getting shorter my evenings are lit by the flickering of candles.  I was […]

Relaxing at The Hideaway Experience

Posted on August 17, 2018March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

I was recently invited to stay at The Hideaway Experience near Dundee to write a guest post for EmbraceScotland (post coming soon!). It was absolute bliss!  We stayed in The Dreamers Hideaway, with its panoramic views, hot tub, hammock, huge bathtub and super king size bed.  The open plan, spacious hideaway is beautifully decorated and a great […]

A Hebridean Holiday

Posted on July 2, 2018March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

The Outer Hebrides has been on my bucket list for quite some time.  I have long felt the pull of Scotland’s west coast, drawn to its raw and wild beauty.  Every trip west would make my feet itch even more and I longed to go island-hopping.  Photos of white sand beaches and rugged Hebridean landscapes […]

Mud and Bloom Review

Posted on June 11, 2018March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

Two of my favourite things to do with the kids are crafts and being in nature.  So the Mud and Bloom gardening and nature craft boxes are right up my street.  Usually I scroll through Pinterest and Instagram for ideas, and often I pin a craft that is out of season and then forget about […]

Behind the Squares

Posted on May 18, 2018May 21, 2018by Emma Gibb

It’s a funny thing, social media.  I work in social media and I love Instagram in particular – I love the community of mums and the inspiration I get on a daily basis (everything from clothes and books to mindfulness prompts to places to visit).  I also love playing around with photography and words, and […]

Touring Rora Dairy

Posted on May 7, 2018March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

Until this weekend, we had never been on a farm tour.  I knew the kids would love exploring a dairy farm and so we set off in the beautiful May sunshine for the Rora Dairy Open Day.  I don’t often venture north of Aberdeen and I love the sprawling farmland flanked by the coastline.  Rora is […]

The Playful Garden at Brodie Castle

Posted on April 30, 2018May 14, 2018by Emma Gibb

During the Easter holidays we visited the new Playful Garden at Brodie Castle.  It had only recently opened and, as we holiday frequently in Moray, we were all excited to visit somewhere new in the area.  As we have family membership for the National Trust of Scotland, it was free for us all to visit.  […]

A Weekend at Boutique Farm Bothies

Posted on March 8, 2018March 14, 2019by Emma Gibb

Glamping at The Barley Bothy I first heard about Boutique Farm Bothies when scrolling through Instagram and saw a repost by VisitAberdeen of someone relaxing in a hot tub in a picturesque countryside setting.  ‘Wood-fired hot tub’ in the caption caught my attention and I immediately wanted to find out more.  Years ago, when we […]

Art projects that were started at the end of April Art projects that were started at the end of April are now finished- a cardboard tube dragon and a milk bottle Trex. These are both from Darrell Wakelam’s #artjumpstart projects that he’s been sharing on Twitter. We helped my son to make them both (both quite fiddly to create) and then he had lots of fun painting them. Some new wall art for his room

Its been over a year since I lasted showed my face Its been over a year since I lasted showed my face on here (fun fact, I was wearing the same dungarees, I promise I don’t live in them!). So I thought I’d say hello and tell you a bit about me. 👋🏻
• I’m Emma, I write a blog called This Mother and use the blog and this account to share our adventures outdoors, nature activities, crafts and {when we’re not in lockdown} recommendations on places to visit.
• I have two children {the little hands and silhouettes on my feed}. I still can’t quite believe my youngest will be starting school after the summer.
• I’ve learnt that I’m no good at cutting men’s hair. I also miss my fringe (but not attempting to cut it myself!).
• I love to write, particularly poetry. It is a dream of mine to write a children’s book.
• I haven’t been in a shop or driven for eight weeks now. I think it might take me a while to get used to life out of lockdown...
• I love gardening 🌱
• I really enjoy crafting and find it very therapeutic creating things ✂️
• I love hats. Last night I ordered a straw hat with a chin tie that *may* look like something Mary Poppins would wear. {Do you want to see it when it arrives?!}.
